Rules of the Road

Safety is our top priority!!

Mopeds:

  • Helmets and eyewear must be worn at all times during the operation of the moped by BOTH the driver AND the passenger. Minimum $85 fine if caught without.
  •  Pregnant woman are not allowed on mopeds or bicycles. It’s for your own safety and comfort.
  • Infants and Toddlers are not allowed on the mopeds. The child’s feet must reach the foot rests in order to ride on the moped. The child’s minimum height on average is 42″, but this can vary between moped model and the child’s leg to body ratio.
  •  Excessive use of the horn will be fined minimum $50. The horn is used to give WHEN NECESSARY an audible warning to ensure safe operation of the moped.
  • Mopeds can only handle up to 2 passengers.
  • Mopeds are not allowed on the roads between the hours of 8 p.m. (or dark) AND 8:30 a.m.
  • Mopeds are not allowed on dirt roads.
  • Mopeds must be parked in a legal parking space.
  • The moped may not be driven by any person other than the authorized driver(s).
  • You must have a valid drivers license on you.
  • The driver must comply with all town and state regulations, statues, and laws.

Bicycles:

  • Helmets are highly recommended for all customers and Rhode Island State law states helmets are mandatory for all children under the age of 16 years old.
  • Pregnant woman are not allowed on bicycles. It’s for your own safety and comfort.
  • Children under the age of 18 months are not allowed on bicycles or on the biggie attachments.
  • Keep to the right of the road.
  • Travel in a single file.
  • Be aware of the traffic approaching from the rear.
  • Stop at all stop signs.
  • Park all bicycles at designated bike racks

For moped and bicycle renters:

  • There is no off roading or going on the beach with any rental vehicle. Due to the nature of the condition of the roads; Coast Guard Road, West Beach Road, and Snake Hole Road are off limits to all rental cars.
    The 4-wheel drive has been disconnected from the jeeps. Tow fines are a minimum $350.
  • Seat belts are mandatory and one is needed for every passenger. Our motor vehicles range between two (2) and seven (7) passengers vehicles.
  •  Jeeps doors must remain on the vehicle at all times and cannot be removed. The jeep top cannot be removed or replaced without assistance from an Old Harbor Bike Shop or Boat Basin Rentals employee.
  • Please honor and respect the privacy of residents living on Private Roads. All of our island attractions are accessible by the main roads.
  • Motor vehicles must be parked in a legal parking space.
  • The motor vehicle may not be driven by any person other than the authorized driver(s).
  • You must have a valid drivers license on you.
  • The driver must comply with all town and state regulations, statues, and laws.
